Welcome to Chameleon Class - Year 4
Welcome to Chameleon Class!
Hello, I’m Ms Murphy and I’m thrilled to be working with year 4 this year.
Having grown up locally, I love how much this county has to offer. I’m a great fan of spending time in the outdoors and exploring our local area with its wealth of history, beautiful scenery, and vibrant culture – all things which add to our varied curriculum in school.
I’m passionate about learning and love seeing the world through the children’s eyes which is why I think trips are so important. In year 4 we are lucky our curriculum provides some brilliant opportunities for excursions to places like Caerleon and the Avalon Marshes. As creative writing is a great passion of mine, I can appreciate the value trips like these can have in terms of capturing the children’s interest. They can prove to be a real inspiration and help to create lifelong memories.
In Chameleon class, we have lots of adults who support us including Ms Lamos who is super organised and nurturing. She runs intervention groups and leads Spanish Club where she enjoys sharing her culture with the children. Miss Allen has just joined us so is new to the school. She loves performing arts!
The Elli learning animals are really important to me, and we use these to help us in our learning. As Chameleon class, we focus on flexibility and being open to change but we don’t limit ourselves there! We are also kind and resilient like the tortoise and work as a team to help each other. We celebrate our achievements and encourage each other to be positive and up for a challenge! Understanding that we can get better at learning over time, we believe that through effort our minds can get bigger and stronger just as our bodies can.
This year we will be continuing our journey from the Bronze Age in year 3 into the Iron Age and beyond, eventually reaching the Normans! Our approach is investigative and hands on which allows for lots of fun, engaging activities.
Our science and geography topics involve a strong focus on the environment which means we will be enjoying some outside learning where we investigate the natural world.
In Maths we will be learning all our times tables, singing fun songs and playing games to help us.
We focus on developing our reading in English by working on fluency and improving comprehension through reading VIPERS. We love to read and will be sharing a wide range of texts and tales as we develop our literacy skills.
I am available to contact on Class Dojo, so please feel free to message me there if you need to and I will try to reply as quickly as possible!
