Year 3 |
In the second half of this term Year 3 produce a Nativity play. This includes lots of singing, with the opportunity for some to sing solos or in small groups. |
This term, Year 3 listen to and respond to a range of music from different genres and cultures. |
This term, Year 3 learn to play the recorder, starting with B, A and G and learning to read different notes and rhythms in staff notation. |
Year 4 |
This term, Year 4 listen to and respond to a range of music from different genres and cultures. |
This term, Year 4 develop their recorder skills, learning new notes E, D, C and D’, and learning more complex rhythms using staff notation. |
This term, Year 4 learn songs about Viking Sagas in a variety of different styles. |
Year 5 |
This term, Year 5 listen to and plays Samba music from Brazil using a wide variety of unpitched percussion instruments. In the second half term we listen to ‘The Little train of the Caipira’ by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos and create our own musical train journey using unpitched percussion instruments. |
This term, Year 5 listens to The Planets by Holst then compose their own ‘sound picture’ to describe ‘Earth, The Bringer of …’ using a variety of pitched and unpitched percussion instruments. In the second half of the term we continue to develop our recorder skills. |
This term, Year 5 learn to play simple chords on the ukulele and to read chord notation, as well as singing along to some popular tunes as we play. |
Year 6 |
This term, Year 6 learn about the famous Victorian composer, Edward Elgar, and listen to and respond to some of his music. |
This term, Year 6 learn to play the glockenspiel, improvising tunes and reading and writing staff notation. |
This term, Year 6 produce their Leavers’ Play. This includes lots of singing, including part-singing, with the opportunity for some to sing solos or in small groups . |
